12. 9. 09

Drove up again. Jacqui and I came up for a BMX Bandits gig in Glasgow. I spent a few hours with you in the afternoon and even in the last couple of weeks the difference is amazing. Standing up and walking holding onto things.
Came back out on Sunday before leaving for the long drive back to Hemel.
Not enough time in these short visits.

8. 8. 09

Up early for your Christening tomorrow. Leaps and bounds, that's all I can say. Laughing at me is a great feeling.
You're wee suit was really unusual and made you look classy. Everyone doted on you and it was great having all my cousins and relations along for the day too.

Saturday 25th July

I flew up this morning. Not sure how it happened, but I booked an earlier flight than usual and had to get up at 4.15am to get to the airport! Your mum picked me up and we went for breakfast before heading home.
We took you out for a walk around the Lochs at Drumpellier it was such a nice day. I feels so good walking about with you. I love it. We had a good carry on all day and loads of good pix were taken.
You got the fright of your life when I sneezed and you started to cry your wee eyes out.
Next day I got a call to say my last remaining uncle passed away last night. So I visited my aunt and cousins before heading back to you.
Sunday was good because I'd booked a later plane home too. So I saw more of you than usual, but I was knackered next morning having to get up for work. Next visit will be your Christening. Look forward to it. I might even dress up for it!

Tuesday 14th July

A quick visit today after we drove up from Newcastle last night for a gig in Glasgow. I turned up at the door and you were out in the street trying to walk in your wee stroller. You looked like you would have been down the street in a shot if you could. There wasn't much time with you before I had to head back into town for the gig.
The gig was one of the guys from Brian Wilson's band, and one day you'll learn what a talent BW was.
I popped in to see you the next day as we headed off home. But not before I had you laughing at my Bob Dylan's "Blowing In The Wind." It's used in an advert on TV just now and you perk up everytime it comes on!

20 June

Couldn't get a flight under £200 for weeks. Couldn't wait that long to see you so I drove up this morning. Have a flash new BMW convertible that I parked at the end of the street so it didn't look like I was showing off. Went with you and your Mum shopping. Filmed you laughing your head off while I made you dance to Led Zep!

Sun 21 June

Fathers Day and your Granny's birthday too. I got a Fathers Day card for a Grandfather from you!! Your Gran took the hump at me being there on her birthday so I headed home early in the afternoon to save any argument. It didn't work apparently...she still fell out with your mum because she's talking to me now.
Anyway..it was worth the long haul up to see you, even if it was only for a few hours.

9th May

Another flight up and once again I'm amazed at how much you've grown since the last time I saw you. Looking surprisingly cool in a sun hat, it was great just to hold and cuddle you again. It was great watching you eat from a bowl and not just your bottle. You know how to make a mess.
First time since you were born that Celtic were beat by the Manky Mob. It was only being with you that stopped me sinking into the depths of despair. Bad footballing day.
I was left holding the baby again while your mum and dad went shopping.
It was visiting time this visit. Took you over to Eileen's and Kathleen's to let them see how cool you are becoming. You managed to throw up all over Kathleen.
Holding you up off the ground and your little legs do all they can to start running. Sorry son, but it was so funny watching you try.
Up on Saturday and home on Sunday...not nearly enough time in these visits even though almost every minute is spent with you.

Saturday 7th March

I flew up to Glasgow airport on Saturday morning and your mum picked me up. You weren't in the house when I got there...your Granny had insisted on seeing my face when I saw you again. God almighty how you've grown! I couldn't do anything for about 10 mins apart from cuddle you.
It's amazing to see how much you have filled out wee man. Being able to see you smile and even giggle a little bit nearly burst my heart. We went shopping in the afternoon and I bought you nappies...18 pence a poo they work out at you know :-)
I ended up baby sitting you for a few hours and we both fell asleep on the couch. Peace and quiet and deep, deep joy. I loved it.
You lay on the floor on Sunday night when I was going home. I was lying there with you and just held on to you for as long as I could before I had to leave. I thought I'd be OK, but I was choking inside.
I'll be back ASAP, but I know now the more I see you, the more I miss you Kiddo.
Oh, and I left my glasses and the Dusty Springfield book I was reading. I bought a "Classic Rock" magazine at the airport, then realised I couldn't read it! That's your Granda Barry for you.
Love you.

First visit after the New Year

Back in Glasgow for a gig on 17th Jan and a chance to see the boy wonder again. Drove up from Hemel Hempstead in the morning and went to see you for a couple of hours in the afternoon. It's amazing just how much you've grown in a couple of weeks.
This visit I was staying in a hotel for the night in Glasgow. The bands BTW were, the BMX Bandits, Attic Lights and Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub. We bumped into the Bandits when we went for a meal before the gig.
I wonder what your first gig outside the womb will be?
Went back to see you before we headed back down south. As I was leaving your eyes followed me right round the room. You looked spookily like my old maw! There's definitely a bit of her in you Liam.

Wee Liam

Wow! You weren't supposed to arrive on this planet till a couple of hours ago, but you arrived five weeks early Liam. Your mum was pretty pissed off at me 3 years ago when I left your Gran and she made that quite clear. One thing's for sure though. No matter what your Gran says of me, she'll be the best Gran in the world for you. Then again, I''ll be the best Grandad too!
Your mum called me 30 mins after you were born from the hospital and I screamed with joy when I heard you crying. I hope she's getting less pissed at me.
We made national radio that day too. I'm sure you'll find out about that as time goes by.
Anyway young Liam, I don't know what this blog is about but one thing's for sure, we'll all argue about who loves you the most, and I hope I win.
I've already drove up from Hemel and back the next day just to see you. I managed to stay with you for 5 days last week because it was the new year, and I'll be back next week too.
Cya,
Granda Barry
